Online Learning

Online learning can be a rich part of your career development. For example, if you need quick tips to handle a communication challenge, want to learn how to use Excel, or would like to obtain or maintain professional certifications, GW’s online learning resources can help you acheive your learning goals quickly and easily. Much of GW's online learning is found on our learning management system, SkillPort, or via Lynda.com tutorials. Our Learn Now Guides and some Compliance Training are also part of the online learning available to you.

How to make your online learning successful

Online learning, like traditional training, works best when you are prepared. Use these tips to get the most out of your online learning experience.

  1. Have a goal in mind for the online learning. For example, building time management skills in order to fulfill part of your Professional Development Plan.
  2. Block off time on your calendar to complete the online learning.
  3. Eliminate distractions. Hang a sign on your door or cubicle to indicate you're completing training and use headphones to keep external distractions to a minimum.
  4. Follow up. Document changes or improvements you might make based on the online learning. Schedule time to sit down with your supervisor to discuss what you learned. Include progress on online learning in your Performance Checkpoint and Performance Review discussions.
